There are a variety of scholarships available to international students in Japan. Scholarships from public institutions such as the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) are very well-known, but you can also find many scholarships from private organizations. ・Nitori International Scholarship Foundation

This scholarship offers a base of 50,000 yen per month, but depending on the selection results, an additional stipend of up to 30,000 yen per month can be awarded to successful applicants. ・Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Scholarship

There is no designated country or region of origin for international students, but for this scholarship, you must apply with specific schools. In 2023, for example, international students enrolled in designated universities in Kyoto (20 schools) may apply. Recipients for this scholarship are essentially selected via  document screening and an interview, but there are also written examinations depending on the region.

This scholarship is for international students researching Japanese culture, who are enrolled in doctoral programs at 19 designated universities in Kyoto Prefecture.
