Many organizations and each school provide scholarships targeted to international students.
The application conditions and amount will depend on the type of scholarship. Be sure to confirm.

Type of scholarship

There are 5 major types of scholarships.

Time period from scholarship application to results

The two main periods for scholarship applications and offer results are as follows.

Before you come to Japan

Scholarships where you can receive application and offer results before coming to Japan (only a few available)

After you come to Japan

Scholarships where you receive application and offer results after you have come to Japan and entered the school
Some municipalities, associated international exchange organizations and private scholarship organizations may be applied to from abroad.

For most scholarships you will apply after coming to Japan.
