There are universities/junior colleges/graduate schools in Kyoto that offer the field I’m interested in studying, which school am I able to study at?

On the “STUDY” tab in the header, select “University, Junior Colleges, Graduate Schools”. This will take you to a school search site. Then select the school type or field of study you are interested in for a more specified search. You will be able to see a list of schools that match your search results.

There are vocational colleges in Kyoto that offer the field I’m interested in studying, which school can I study at?

On the “STUDY” tab in the header, select “Vocational Colleges”. This will take you to a school search site. Then select the field of study you are interested in for a more specified search. You will be able to see a list of schools that match your search results.

I would like to study Japanese in Kyoto, what kinds of schools are avaliable?

1 Japanese Language School search:On the “STUDY” tab in the header, select “Japanese Language School”. This will take you to a school search site. Select your desired admission time and a list of Japanese Language Schools that are accepting students during your desired admission time will come up.
2 International Student Department search:Currently in Kyoto, these are the universities and junior colleges that have an International Student Departments:
Hanazono University
Kyoto University of Foreign Studies
Ryukoku University
Kyoto Seizan College
Select the header “School Search”, and search for one of these school names.
3 Short-term program search:From the header “STUDY”, select “Short-Term Study Abroad Program” to see a list of short term programs available.

I’m looking for a school where I can study my field in English, What are my options?

I’m interested in participating in a short term program. What kinds of programs are available, and how much do they cost?

On the “STUDY” tab in the header, select “Short-Term Study Abroad Program” to see a list of short-term programs offered. Select “See details” to find links to the home pages of each program. Please look at the individual websites for details on costs and other specifics.

Q06

In order to study abroad at a school in Kyoto, how much Japanese knowledge do I need?

In order for you to study in your specialized field at a university/junior college/graduate school, typically the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) level N1 to N2, or the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) test scores are required. Because of this, many students increase their Japanese ability at a Japanese language school first, and then apply to a school. Also, depending on the university, (particularly graduate school level), there are courses where you can get your degree in English. Please follow instructions on FAQ4 for more information.
