Hanazono University was established in the spirit of Rinzai Zen in 1872, and is the only university that is located on the site of Heian-kyo, which was the capital of Japan and is now known as Kyoto. Kyoto, a place where tradition and leading enterprises meet, offers an ideal learning environment. The university consists of two faculties and six departments. In the Faculty of Letters, you can learn the essence of Japanese culture, including Zen culture, and Kyoto's traditional culture and history. In the Faculty of Social Welfare, you can learn to become a specialist in the social welfare industry. The university aims to become a global university as a base for introducing Japanese culture to other countries.
