Noryo-yuka

Noryo-yuka

A feature of the Kyoto summer, noryo-yuka are terraces at restaurants or cafés for enjoying a cool evening breeze. Guests are served food as they sit above a river or in some place with a view of a river.
From May through September, visitors can find noryo-yuka in Kyoto along the Kamo River and in Kibune, Takao, and Takagamine. The weather cools down in the evening and at night, and the views are splendid.

Most stores will ask to see identification in order to verify your age.
Should an individual engage in underage drinking, an adult who is present and responsible for the individual will face criminal punishment.

One of Kyoto's hanamachi (entertainment district), Ponto-cho has a large concentration of high-class shops employing the Kyo-machiya style of construction. Many of these also have noryo-yuka for gazing at the Kamo River.

Kyoto's preeminent hanamachi, Gion is also known for the maiko (essentially geisha in training) that work here. In addition to its numerous kabuki theaters and other venues for performing arts, the area has a large number of high-class Japanese food restaurants. Many tourists also visit Yasaka Shrine, where the Gion Festival is held every year.

In the main entrance of Kyoto, in Kyoto Station there is an aerial path with the height of 45 meters. From the aerial path you can have a perfect night view of the city. Also, around Kyoto Station there is a lot of Izakaya and restaurants to enjoy.
