How did you decide where to study abroad? Please tell us why you chose Kyoto in the end.

I wanted to study in a beautiful city with inspiring and talented people. So, I chose my study-abroad destination based on these points.

Kyoto is not only a historical city that represents the traditional image of Japan, but also a city that has many good universities. I thought it would be the best city for me to study in Japan.

What are you currently studying? If you’ve already graduated, what did you study before?

I major in economics, especially the Chinese economy. Besides that, I have also studied information technology as well as Spanish and Russian.

Before studying abroad, what kind of image did you have of Kyoto?

I had the impression that Kyoto was a very traditional city and that I would be able to enjoy a relaxed lifestyle.

How did your image of Kyoto change when you actually studied abroad here?

Although Kyoto is a very old and traditional city, I realized that it also has a very modern and hip side.

What were you nervous about before studying abroad? Please tell us in detail.

Although Kyoto is a very old and traditional city, I realized that it also has a very modern and hip side.

Like other foreign students coming to Japan, I was worried that, because of the language barrier, I wouldn’t be able to make any friends and fit into school and life here in Kyoto.

Through my university life and part-time jobs here, I met various people and have been able to broaden my sense of global values.

Was there anything especially difficult about studying abroad?

To be honest, it was quite challenging to overcome the language barrier.

What do you think is most appealing about studying in Kyoto?

Not only does the city offer many well-known sightseeing spots as a world-class tourist destination, but also you will see so many university students living here because it is known as a university town as well. I think that the unique atmosphere enriches your university life.

How do you want to utilize your study abroad experience in the future?

Needless to say that I would like to use the language skills I gained through life in Kyoto, but I would also like to share my knowledge with Japanese and Chinese people about cultures of both countries. They actually have much in common. I hope that in the future I play a role as a bridge of friendship between Japan and China in both work and daily life.

What is your post-graduation dream?

With my language skills of Chinese, Japanese, and English, I want to set up my own company involved in international trade and international education.

Lastly, please give a message to students considering studying abroad in Kyoto.

I assure you that the studying-abroad life in Kyoto is more enjoyable and fulfilling than you would ever imagine. So please come and see that I am right!
